Alpina Alpiner Extreme Automatic - AL-525LB3AE6B

The Alpina Alpiner Extreme Automatic (ref. AL-525LB3AE6B) wears its mountain heritage with pride, a Swiss sports watch made for fresh air, big views and every adventure in between. Its glacier-inspired light blue dial blends blue and light grey tones with a triangular pattern inspired by Alpine summits, and that triangle theme carries through to the seconds hand counterweight, the crown and the bezel screws as a nod to Alpina's logo and snow-capped peaks. Luminous hour and minute hands and markers keep it readable after dark, and a date window sits at 3 o'clock.

Inside the 39 x 40.5mm cushion-shaped stainless steel case is the Swiss-made AL-525 automatic caliber, which winds itself as you move and holds a 38-hour power reserve. The crown at 3 o'clock has a rubber grip for easy setting, an anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, and with 200 meters of water resistance, this Swiss automatic sports watch is ready for swimming, showering and snorkeling. A stainless steel bracelet with a push-button folding clasp completes the look.

Timepiece History

Alpina's story began in 1883, when alpinist Gottlieb Hauser founded a watchmaking cooperative in Winterthur, Switzerland, with fellow mountaineers, aiming to build robust watches for harsh mountain terrain. In 1938, Alpina introduced the Alpina 4, marketed on four qualities: waterproof, shockproof, anti-magnetic and rustproof. After a period of near inactivity from the early 1980s, Alpina was revived in the early 2000s by Aletta and Peter Stas, the founders of Frederique Constant, and it joined the Citizen Group in 2016.

The original Alpina Extreme Automatic of 2005 introduced a cushion-shaped steel case, an integrated strap and a bezel with triangular screws. Those triangle-section screws nod to Alpina's red triangle logo, itself derived from a stylized Matterhorn, and have appeared consistently in Alpina's designs since 2009.

In 2022, Alpina relaunched the Alpiner Extreme Automatic, a model it describes as a return to its mechanical heritage and outdoor identity. The collection now also includes this more compact 39mm size, with the same triangle details on the dial, crown and bezel screws.
