Junghans Meister Chronoscope - 27/4223.03

Classic charm and sporting spirit come together beautifully in the Junghans Meister Chronoscope (ref. 27/4223.03). Its warm grey sunray dial shimmers as it catches the light, framing diamond-effect hour and minute hands with luminous substance and the bowl-shaped subdials that are a hallmark of the Meister range. Day and date displays add everyday practicality to the chronograph's 30-minute and 12-hour counters.

Inside the polished 40.7mm stainless steel case, the self-winding J880.1 caliber delivers up to 48 hours of power reserve with the chronograph at rest, and it can be admired through the five-screw case back fitted with mineral crystal. A domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal gives the watch its elegant silhouette, and a grey ostrich leather strap with a stainless steel buckle adds a luxurious texture. Water resistant to 5 bar, this German automatic chronograph is refined enough for the office and spirited enough for the weekend.

Timepiece History

Junghans traces its roots to 1861, when Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law set up a workshop in Schramberg, in Germany's Black Forest, to make components for clocks, and the first complete Junghans clocks followed in 1866. By 1903, Junghans had become the world's largest watch factory, and in 1918 Arthur Junghans completed the nine-tier Terrassenbau, a terraced factory designed to bring daylight to every workplace that now houses the Junghans Terrassenbau Museum. Owned by the Steim family since 2009, Junghans still crafts its watches in Schramberg.

In 1936, Junghans introduced its first in-house wristwatch movement, the J80, which became the basis of the Meister series, and the Meister design language took shape in the 1950s. Junghans was also a chronometer powerhouse in that era: in 1951 it was Germany's largest chronometer maker, and by 1956 it ranked third worldwide. The Meister Chronoscope draws on that heritage, with the bowl-shaped dimples of its subdials a signature of the Meister range.
