Frederique Constant Highlife Chronograph Automatic - FC-391SB4NH6B

Mechanical timing takes center stage in the Frederique Constant Highlife Chronograph Automatic (ref. FC-391SB4NH6B), a Swiss automatic chronograph that sets a crisp white dial within the clean, integrated lines of the Highlife collection. Driving it is the FC-391 self-winding caliber, delivering hours, minutes, seconds, date and a mechanical chronograph, along with a generous 60-hour power reserve that comfortably carries it through a weekend off the wrist. The brass dial pairs indexes with luminous hands and markers, and its chronograph counters are framed by inward-curved collars with graduations fine enough to read elapsed time to a fifth of a second.

Look closely at the 41mm stainless steel case and you will see polished and brushed surfaces alternating across the sides and bezel, a nod to the fine watchmaking traditions of Geneva. The pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock start, stop and reset the chronograph, and each is tilted a few degrees to follow the profile of the case. Turn the watch over and an anti-reflective sapphire case back reveals the automatic movement and chronograph module, including the column wheel at 3 o'clock. The integrated steel bracelet closes with a deployant clasp with push buttons, a black rubber strap with a quick-release system is included for sportier days, and 100 meters of water resistance means it is ready for the pool as well as the office.

Timepiece History

Frederique Constant was founded in 1988 by Aletta and Peter Stas, an entrepreneurial couple who shared a passion for watchmaking. Headquartered in Geneva, Frederique Constant has long aimed to make high-end Swiss-made watches available at more accessible prices. In 2004, it joined the ranks of Swiss watchmakers that develop and produce their own in-house calibers, and today its Manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, designs, develops and assembles more than 30 in-house calibers, including tourbillon, perpetual calendar and flyback chronograph complications. Frederique Constant celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2023.

The Highlife collection made its debut in 1999 with models known for their integrated strap, and Frederique Constant revived it from 2020. Because the case has no strap horns, its lines and those of the bracelet must flow together, a more challenging design to develop that rewards the wearer with a watch that sits naturally on the wrist. Every Highlife dial shares a globe motif representing the Earth, harmony and the perfection of the circle, two push-pins at the end of the bracelet allow tool-free switching between steel, leather and rubber, and the new models use sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating on both sides.

The Highlife Chronograph Automatic brings a mechanical stopwatch into this integrated design. Its case finishing, with polished and brushed surfaces alternating across the sides and bezel, follows the traditions of Geneva fine watchmaking, while the sapphire case back puts the chronograph's column wheel on display.
