Frederique Constant Manufacture Classic Moonphase Date - FC-716N3H6

The Frederique Constant Manufacture Classic Moonphase Date (ref. FC-716N3H6) proudly dresses an in-house Swiss automatic watch in midnight blue, with a sunburst dial that gives the deep color a lively shimmer. Diamond-cut hour and minute hands and hour markers flash against the blue, framed by a crisp railtrack minute track. The 40mm stainless steel case keeps a slim 11.78mm profile that slips easily under a shirt cuff, an onion-shaped crown at three o'clock adds a classic touch, and the blue alligator strap with navy overstitching closes with a folding buckle with push buttons. Anti-reflective sapphire crystal and 50 meters of water resistance keep it ready for everyday wear.

Then there is the night sky. At six o'clock, a moonphase aperture follows the moon across a field of stars through each 29.5-day cycle, while a slender central hand points to the date on a 1 to 31 scale at the edge of the dial. Driving these displays is the FC-716, a self-winding caliber developed by Frederique Constant in Geneva, which stores three full days of energy in its 72-hour reserve, a reassuring margin for anyone who rotates between several watches. It beats at 4Hz for steady timekeeping, and its fan-shaped Côtes de Genève decoration is on show through the see-through case back. The result is a refined blue-dial moonphase, equally at home with a tailored suit or a weekend jacket.

Timepiece History

Frederique Constant was founded in 1988 by Aletta and Peter Stas, an entrepreneurial couple who shared a passion for watchmaking. Headquartered in Geneva, Frederique Constant has long aimed to make high-end Swiss-made watches available at more accessible prices. In 2004, it joined the ranks of Swiss watchmakers that develop and produce their own in-house calibers, and today its Manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, designs, develops and assembles more than 30 in-house calibers, including tourbillon, perpetual calendar and flyback chronograph complications. Frederique Constant celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2023.

The Classic Moonphase Date Manufacture stands as Frederique Constant's flagship model, and it entered a new chapter in 2024 with a trio of 40mm references in midnight blue, silver grey and British racing green. That update brought the in-house FC-716 caliber, fitted with a new barrel for a 72-hour reserve and decorated with a fan-shaped Côtes de Genève pattern in place of the earlier circular motif, while its 4Hz architecture builds on a movement Frederique Constant developed nearly ten years before. The moonphase display itself is a nod to the enduring bond between horology and astronomy.
