Daily Care

Stainless Steel and Titanium
• Light surface marks may develop over time with normal wear.

Quietly confident and built around the essentials, the Junghans max bill Chronoscope (ref. 27/4502.02) is a German automatic chronograph that lets its design do the talking. Its matt silver-plated dial shows the restraint at the heart of Max Bill's thinking, with luminous hands and minute track for clarity day and night and a symmetrical layout made possible by omitting the small seconds.
The self-winding J880.2 movement powers the stop function and date display and stores up to 48 hours of energy, so the watch keeps running even after a day off the wrist. Its 40mm stainless steel case, 14.4mm in height, sits beneath an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and a leather strap with a stainless steel buckle completes the design. With 5 bar water resistance, it is ready for everyday wear.

Timepiece History
Junghans was founded on April 14, 1861, in Schramberg in Germany's Black Forest, when Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law, Jakob Zeller-Tobler, set up a firm making parts for large Black Forest clocks; the first complete Junghans clocks followed in 1866. By 1903, Junghans had grown into the largest clock manufacturer in the world, and in 1918 it completed its nine-level terrace building, the Terrassenbau, which today houses the Junghans Terrassenbau Museum. Owned by the Steim family since 2009, Junghans remains based in Schramberg today.
In 1961, the Bauhaus-trained artist and architect Max Bill designed Junghans' first line of mechanical wristwatches, and Junghans still makes them in nearly the same form. The partnership had begun five years earlier, in 1956, and had already produced table clocks in 1958. Bill also gave the line its squared numerals, among them a 4 that resembles an upside-down chair, and the Bauhaus, where he trained, was founded more than a century ago.
