Junghans Meister Chronoscope - 27/4429.47

Striking and technical, the Junghans Meister Chronoscope (ref. 27/4429.47) gives the classic Meister chronograph a modern, sporty edge. Its matt dark grey lacquered dial features an applied 12 o'clock marker and diamond-effect hour and minute hands with white luminous substance, while yellow-lacquered subdial hands add vivid pops of color within the line's signature bowl-shaped subdials.

The self-winding J880.1 caliber runs the stop function with 30-minute and 12-hour counters, plus date and weekday displays, and offers up to 48 hours of power reserve when the chronograph is not running. The polished 40.7mm stainless steel case, with its five-screw case back and mineral crystal, is matched to a matt and polished stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. Under a domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and water resistant to 5 bar, this automatic chronograph is built to be worn and enjoyed every day.

Timepiece History

Junghans traces its roots to 1861, when Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law set up a workshop in Schramberg, in Germany's Black Forest, to make components for clocks, and the first complete Junghans clocks followed in 1866. By 1903, Junghans had become the world's largest watch factory, and in 1918 Arthur Junghans completed the nine-tier Terrassenbau, a terraced factory designed to bring daylight to every workplace that now houses the Junghans Terrassenbau Museum. Owned by the Steim family since 2009, Junghans still crafts its watches in Schramberg.

The Meister line's story begins in 1936 with the J80, Junghans' first in-house wristwatch movement, and its design took its classic form in the 1950s. In 1951 Junghans was Germany's largest chronometer maker, ranking third in the world by 1956. This Meister Chronoscope gives that heritage a contemporary twist with a dark grey dial, yellow-lacquered subdial hands and a steel bracelet, while keeping the bowl-shaped subdials typical of the range.
