Seiko Prospex "Shogun" PADI Special Edition Automatic Diver - SRPL53

Rich emerald green and full of life, the Seiko Prospex PADI Special Edition Automatic Diver (ref. SRPL53) celebrates Seiko's ongoing partnership with PADI through a patterned, gradated dial that recalls rippling, sunlit waves seen from below the surface. A coordinating green unidirectional elapsed-time bezel completes the vibrant look. The 41.7mm stainless steel case borrows elements from the original model of one of Seiko's best-known diving styles, refining its sharp, angular lines in a smaller footprint.

Seiko's caliber 4R35 automatic movement keeps time with 23 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour and approximately 41 hours of power reserve, and it can be hand-wound as well. LumiBrite on the hands, indexes and bezel keeps the green dial readable in dim light, while a Hardlex crystal, screw-down crown and screw case back marked SPECIAL EDITION help deliver 200 meters of diver's water resistance. On the wrist, its stainless steel bracelet fastens with a three-fold push-button clasp, secure lock and extender, and 4,800 A/m of magnetic resistance makes this vivid diver an easy everyday companion.

Timepiece History

Seiko's story began in 1881, when a 21-year-old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. The first watch to carry the Seiko name followed in 1924, and Seiko went on to introduce a long line of watchmaking firsts, including the Quartz Astron, the world's first quartz wristwatch, on December 25, 1969. In 2024, Seiko celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Seiko brand.

The SRPL53 belongs to the Prospex Sea line, a diver's watch lineage that traces back to 1965, when Seiko introduced Japan's first diver's watch, a self-winding model water resistant to 150 meters that was used on the 8th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition in 1966. In 1975, Seiko's Professional Diver's 600M became the world's first diver's watch with a titanium case, and Seiko has continued to engineer its divers around the demands of real underwater conditions. The SRPL53 marks Seiko's ongoing partnership with PADI, with an emerald-green dial inspired by light shimmering on the water as seen from below.
