Seiko Prospex "Monster" PADI Special Edition - SRPE27

Proudly carrying the colors of Seiko's official partnership with PADI, the Seiko Prospex PADI Special Edition Automatic Diver (ref. SRPE27) frames a black dial bearing the PADI logo with a red and blue unidirectional elapsed-time bezel. PADI is the world's leading organization for scuba diver training, and this edition wears that connection with real confidence. The case is shaped with grooved edges that resemble teeth, a bold signature drawn from Seiko's best-known diving styles, and at 42.4mm it is a touch more compact than its powerful lines suggest.

Seiko's caliber 4R36 automatic movement keeps it running at 21,600 vibrations per hour with 24 jewels and approximately 41 hours of power reserve, and it can be wound by hand or simply by wearing it. LumiBrite glows from the hands, indexes and bezel, while magnified glass in the Hardlex crystal enlarges the day/date display for quick reading. A screw-down crown and a screw case back marked SPECIAL EDITION secure 200 meters of diver's water resistance, and the stainless steel bracelet fastens with a three-fold push-button clasp that adds a secure lock and an extender.

Timepiece History

Seiko's story began in 1881, when a 21-year-old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. The first watch to carry the Seiko name followed in 1924, and Seiko went on to introduce a long line of watchmaking firsts, including the Quartz Astron, the world's first quartz wristwatch, on December 25, 1969. In 2024, Seiko celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Seiko brand.

The SRPE27 belongs to the Prospex Sea line, a diver's watch lineage that traces back to 1965, when Seiko introduced Japan's first diver's watch, a self-winding model water resistant to 150 meters that was used on the 8th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition in 1966. In 1975, Seiko's Professional Diver's 600M became the world's first diver's watch with a titanium case, and Seiko has continued to engineer its divers around the demands of real underwater conditions. The SRPE27's more compact case looks back to Seiko's landmark 1960s and '70s designs, here dressed in the red and blue of Seiko's partnership with PADI.
