Junghans Meister Chronoscope - 27/4526.03

Rich, deep blue and full of vintage character, the Junghans Meister Chronoscope (ref. 27/4526.03) is an automatic chronograph made to be noticed. Its circular-brushed blue dial plays with the light around the signature bowl-shaped subdials of the Meister line, while luminous hands, a date and a weekday display keep it as useful as it is handsome.

The self-winding J880.1 caliber powers the stop function with 30-minute and 12-hour counters and holds up to 48 hours of reserve when the chronograph is not running. Housed in a polished 40.7mm stainless steel case with a five-screw case back fitted with mineral crystal, it sits beneath a domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. A brown horse leather strap with a stainless steel buckle provides a warm contrast to the blue, and 5 bar water resistance makes it ready for daily wear.

Timepiece History

Junghans traces its roots to 1861, when Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law set up a workshop in Schramberg, in Germany's Black Forest, to make components for clocks, and the first complete Junghans clocks followed in 1866. By 1903, Junghans had become the world's largest watch factory, and in 1918 Arthur Junghans completed the nine-tier Terrassenbau, a terraced factory designed to bring daylight to every workplace that now houses the Junghans Terrassenbau Museum. Owned by the Steim family since 2009, Junghans still crafts its watches in Schramberg.

The Meister name goes back to 1936, when the J80, Junghans' first in-house wristwatch movement, laid the foundation for the series. Its classic design was refined in the 1950s, a decade in which Junghans rose to become Germany's largest chronometer maker in 1951 and the world's third largest by 1956. Today the Meister Chronoscope carries that heritage forward, with bowl-shaped subdials that are a hallmark of the Meister range.
