Junghans Force Mega Solar - 18/1400.44

Ultra-light, scratch-resistant and remarkably smart, the Junghans Force Mega Solar (ref. 18/1400.44) showcases Junghans' leadership in radio-controlled and solar technology. Its dial is a glass solar cell that continuously charges the multi-frequency radio-controlled J615.84 movement, while luminous markings at 12, 3, 6 and 9 and luminous hour and minute hands keep everything clear at a glance.

The movement receives time signals in Europe, the UK, Japan and the USA and connects to the Junghans app, with a perpetual calendar, big date and a power reserve of up to 21 months, plus an automatic energy-saving mode after 72 hours. Everything is housed in a polished black ceramic case measuring 40.4mm and just 8.2mm thin, with a ceramic case back held by four screws and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. A ceramic strap with ice-grey synthetic rubber elements and 5 bar water resistance make this solar watch a high-tech companion for every day.

Timepiece History

Junghans traces its roots to 1861, when Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law set up a workshop in Schramberg, in Germany's Black Forest, to make components for clocks, and the first complete Junghans clocks followed in 1866. By 1903, Junghans had become the world's largest watch factory, and in 1918 Arthur Junghans completed the nine-tier Terrassenbau, a terraced factory designed to bring daylight to every workplace that now houses the Junghans Terrassenbau Museum. Owned by the Steim family since 2009, Junghans still crafts its watches in Schramberg.

Junghans is a pioneer of radio-controlled timekeeping. It introduced a radio-controlled table clock for the home in 1985 and a solar-powered radio-controlled clock in 1986, and in 1990 its Mega 1 became the world's first radio-controlled wristwatch. Solar radio-controlled wristwatches entered series production in 1993, and the Force Mega Solar continues that line of innovation in a lightweight, scratch-resistant ceramic case.
