Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Limited Edition - SSC909

Seiko celebrates the drive of athletes in the Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph Limited Edition (ref. SSC909), a proud 10,000-piece edition inspired by the Crystal Trophy that honors their challenges. Its transparent pale blue dial carries a sunray finish that plays with the light to capture a trophy's brilliance, set off by black subdials and a black tachymeter bezel. Both the chronograph second hand and the 6 o'clock minute hand are white and sit in a straight line, so the chronograph is easy to read, while gray hard-coated center links on the bracelet add a sporty edge.

Seiko's solar caliber V192 operates for approximately six months once fully charged, with overcharge prevention and a power reserve indicator. Beyond the 60-minute chronograph in 1/5-second increments, it offers a 24-hour hand, small seconds and a date display, with LumiBrite on the hands and indexes. The compact 39mm stainless steel case pairs a curved sapphire crystal, coated against reflections on its inner surface, with a screw case back engraved LIMITED EDITION and a serial number. With 100 meters of water resistance and a three-fold push-button clasp, it blends elegance and sportiness for every day.

Timepiece History

Seiko's story began in 1881, when a 21-year-old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. The first watch to carry the Seiko name followed in 1924, and Seiko went on to introduce a long line of watchmaking firsts, including the Quartz Astron, the world's first quartz wristwatch, on December 25, 1969. In 2024, Seiko celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Seiko brand.

The SSC909 is part of the Prospex Speedtimer series, inspired by Seiko's long tradition in sports timing. In the 1960s, Seiko built high-precision stopwatches around its innovative heart-shaped cam mechanism, including a 1/100-second stopwatch that served as an official timing device at the world sporting event held in Tokyo in 1964, and in 1969 Seiko introduced the Speedtimer with Caliber 6139, the first automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch.
