Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph - SSC911

Crisp, sporty and proudly rooted in Seiko's timing heritage, the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer (ref. SSC911) pairs a white dial with contrasting black subdials for instant, easy reading. A red chronograph hand adds a racing flash of color, framed by a gray tachymeter bezel that turns the chronograph into a tool for reading speed. LumiBrite on the hands and indexes keeps the time visible when the light fades.

The 41.4mm stainless steel case houses Seiko's solar caliber V192, which runs for about six months on a full charge and guards against overcharging. Its chronograph records up to 60 minutes of elapsed time, reading to 1/5 of a second, and a power reserve indicator, 24-hour hand, small seconds and date display round out a well-equipped dial. A curved sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating, a screw case back and 100 meters of water resistance make it ready for daily wear, finished on a steel bracelet with a three-fold push-button clasp.

Features

  • White dial, black subdials – a classic high-contrast chronograph layout.
  • Red chronograph hand – a bright accent for timing at a glance.
  • Gray tachymeter bezel – a tachymeter scale for reading speed with the chronograph.
  • V192 solar caliber – light-powered, running approximately 6 months when fully charged, with overcharge prevention.
  • Curved sapphire crystal – anti-reflective coating on the inner surface.

Timepiece History

Seiko's story began in 1881, when a 21-year-old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. The first watch to carry the Seiko name followed in 1924, and Seiko went on to introduce a long line of watchmaking firsts, including the Quartz Astron, the world's first quartz wristwatch, on December 25, 1969. In 2024, Seiko celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Seiko brand.

The SSC911 is part of the Prospex Speedtimer series, inspired by Seiko's long tradition in sports timing. In the 1960s, Seiko built high-precision stopwatches around its innovative heart-shaped cam mechanism, including a 1/100-second stopwatch that served as an official timing device at the world sporting event held in Tokyo in 1964, and in 1969 Seiko introduced the Speedtimer with Caliber 6139, the first automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch.
