Alpina Alpiner Extreme Chronograph Automatic - AL-730SB4AE6B

Bold contrast and genuine mechanical precision define the Alpina Alpiner Extreme Chronograph Automatic (ref. AL-730SB4AE6B), a proper chronograph built with the strength of a true sport watch. Its silver dial carries Alpina's triangle pattern and applied silver indexes filled with white luminous material, framed by a black outer ring with white chronograph seconds graduations. Three black subdials with silver hands and white graduations, a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock and running seconds at 9 o'clock, give it a bold panda-style contrast, while a silver chronograph seconds hand with Alpina's red triangle and a date window between 4 and 5 o'clock finish the layout.

Powering it all is the Swiss-made AL-730 automatic chronograph caliber, with a generous 62-hour power reserve you can admire through the engraved see-through case back. The 41mm three-part case is brushed and polished stainless steel under an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, finished with a brushed and polished steel bracelet and push-button folding clasp, and 100 meters of water resistance means this Swiss automatic chronograph is ready for swimming, showering and snorkeling.

Timepiece History

Alpina's story began in 1883, when alpinist Gottlieb Hauser founded a watchmaking cooperative in Winterthur, Switzerland, with fellow mountaineers, aiming to build robust watches for harsh mountain terrain. In 1938, Alpina introduced the Alpina 4, marketed on four qualities: waterproof, shockproof, anti-magnetic and rustproof. After a period of near inactivity from the early 1980s, Alpina was revived in the early 2000s by Aletta and Peter Stas, the founders of Frederique Constant, and it joined the Citizen Group in 2016.

The original Alpina Extreme Automatic of 2005 introduced a cushion-shaped steel case and a bezel with triangular screws, a nod to Alpina's red triangle logo, itself derived from a stylized Matterhorn. In 2022, Alpina relaunched the Alpiner Extreme Automatic, a model it describes as a return to its mechanical heritage and outdoor identity.

In January 2024, Alpina introduced a chronograph version of the Alpiner Extreme, powered by the automatic AL-730 caliber with a 62-hour power reserve and offered with a silver or navy blue dial.
