Alpina Alpiner Extreme Quartz - AL-220LB2AE6B

Sporty, refined and sized to suit a wide range of wrists, the Alpina Alpiner Extreme Quartz (ref. AL-220LB2AE6B) is everyday Swiss luxury at its most versatile. Its compact 34 x 35.2mm cushion-shaped case in brushed stainless steel is just 8.35mm thick and sized to be unisex, flowing into a stainless steel bracelet with a push-button folding clasp. The ice blue dial is textured with Alpina's signature triangle pattern and set off by white markers and applied silver-tone indexes filled with white luminescent material, while a polished silver-tone seconds hand featuring Alpina's red triangle and a date window at 6 o'clock complete the look.

Inside is Alpina's Swiss-made AL-220 quartz movement, which keeps time to within 15 seconds a month, so it's always ready to grab and go. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal keeps the dial easy to read and stands up to scratches and impacts, and with 100 meters of water resistance, this Swiss quartz watch is ready for swimming, showering and snorkeling.

Timepiece History

Alpina's story began in 1883, when alpinist Gottlieb Hauser founded a watchmaking cooperative in Winterthur, Switzerland, with fellow mountaineers, aiming to build robust watches for harsh mountain terrain. The Alpina name was registered as a watch trademark in 1908, and Alpina's red triangle emblem is derived from a stylized Matterhorn.

In 1938, Alpina introduced the Alpina 4, marketed on four qualities: waterproof, shockproof, anti-magnetic and rustproof. After a period of near inactivity from the early 1980s, Alpina was revived in the early 2000s by Aletta and Peter Stas, the founders of Frederique Constant, and it joined the Citizen Group in 2016.

The Alpiner Extreme line began life as the Avalanche Extreme in the 2000s, and its modern automatic models carry a triangle-textured dial and a red triangle on the seconds hand as nods to Alpina's logo. At Watches and Wonders 2024, Alpina introduced the Alpiner Extreme Quartz, the first quartz model in the line, in a more compact 34mm unisex size.
