Alpina Heritage Automatic - AL-520SBG3SH6

Quietly elegant and rich in vintage character, the Alpina Heritage Automatic (ref. AL-520SBG3SH6) is a beautiful way to wear a piece of Alpina's history. Its matte beige dial is framed by a silver sunray outer ring and set with printed bronze Arabic numerals and indexes, a black seconds graduation and blue PVD dauphine hands. It's a warm, layered color combination that looks just as good with a suit as it does with denim.

The 38mm two-part case is polished stainless steel with a solid case back, topped by an anti-reflective box sapphire crystal that adds to the vintage profile. Inside is the Swiss-made AL-520 automatic caliber, which winds itself as you wear it, and the watch is finished on a black calf leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching and a pin buckle. At just under 11mm thick, this Swiss automatic dress watch slips easily under a shirt cuff.

Timepiece History

Alpina's story began in 1883, when alpinist Gottlieb Hauser founded a watchmaking cooperative in Winterthur, Switzerland, with fellow mountaineers, aiming to build robust watches for harsh mountain terrain. In 1938, Alpina introduced the Alpina 4, marketed on four qualities: waterproof, shockproof, anti-magnetic and rustproof. After a period of near inactivity from the early 1980s, Alpina was revived in the early 2000s by Aletta and Peter Stas, the founders of Frederique Constant, and it joined the Citizen Group in 2016.

Introduced in 2024 and available from October of that year, the Heritage Automatic brought the first round-cased designs to Alpina's Heritage collection, which until then had been home to the Alpiner Heritage Carrée and the Seastrong Heritage.

The design draws on Alpina watches of the 1920s. Where those originals measured about 27.5mm, the Heritage Automatic scales the look up to a modern 38mm for today's wrists.
