Product details

Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope Bauhaus - 27/4303.02

Celebrating the school that shaped modern design, the Junghans max bill Chronoscope Bauhaus (ref. 27/4303.02) is a chronograph with a story to tell. The matt white dial uses luminous dots in place of numerals, and red inlays on the hands bring the Bauhaus palette to life alongside 30-minute and 12-hour counters and a date display.

Through the glass case back, secured by five screws, the self-winding J880.2 caliber can be seen working behind the windows of a partially transparent Bauhaus motif. The matt stainless steel case measures 40mm across and 14.4mm high and is capped with a domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. With up to 48 hours of power reserve, 5 bar water resistance and a black leather strap with a stainless steel buckle, it is an automatic chronograph that honors design history every time you wear it.

Timepiece History

Junghans traces its roots to 1861, when Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law set up a workshop in Schramberg, in Germany's Black Forest, to make components for clocks, and the first complete Junghans clocks followed in 1866. By 1903, Junghans had become the world's largest watch factory, and in 1918 Arthur Junghans completed the nine-tier Terrassenbau, a terraced factory designed to bring daylight to every workplace that now houses the Junghans Terrassenbau Museum. Owned by the Steim family since 2009, Junghans still crafts its watches in Schramberg.

The Bauhaus, founded more than 100 years ago, counts Max Bill among its students, and from 1961 Bill brought its principles to Junghans' wristwatches after designing a kitchen clock for the company in the early 1950s. The Bauhaus editions make that connection explicit, with red accents inspired by the red doors of the Bauhaus building in Dessau and a case back that reveals the movement through the windows of a Bauhaus image.
