Seiko Prospex "Arctic Monster" Special Edition - SRPG57

A proud tribute to conservation efforts in Antarctica, the Seiko Prospex Save the Ocean Special Edition (ref. SRPG57) carries a light blue gradient dial that shimmers with the blues and whites of light playing on Antarctic ice. Look closer and its die-stamped texture recalls penguin footprints in the snow, a charming detail that rewards a second glance. A bold unidirectional elapsed-time bezel with a deeply grooved edge, a nod to a classic Prospex design, frames the dial on a 42.4mm stainless steel case.

Powering it all is Seiko's caliber 4R36, an automatic movement with 24 jewels that beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, holds approximately 41 hours of power reserve and also winds by hand. Magnified glass in the Hardlex crystal makes the day/date display easy to check, and LumiBrite on the hands, indexes and bezel remains readable in dim conditions. The screw case back, marked SPECIAL EDITION, works with the screw-down crown to secure 200 meters of diver's water resistance, while a three-fold push-button clasp with secure lock and extender fastens the stainless steel bracelet.

Timepiece History

Seiko's story began in 1881, when a 21-year-old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. The first watch to carry the Seiko name followed in 1924, and Seiko went on to introduce a long line of watchmaking firsts, including the Quartz Astron, the world's first quartz wristwatch, on December 25, 1969. In 2024, Seiko celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Seiko brand.

The SRPG57 belongs to the Prospex Sea line, a diver's watch lineage that traces back to 1965, when Seiko introduced Japan's first diver's watch, a self-winding model water resistant to 150 meters that was used on the 8th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition in 1966. In 1975, Seiko's Professional Diver's 600M became the world's first diver's watch with a titanium case, and Seiko has continued to engineer its divers around the demands of real underwater conditions. The SRPG57 links that expedition history to the present as a Save the Ocean Special Edition celebrating conservation efforts in Antarctica.
